The Last Delivery Driver

The Last Delivery Driver · 2039

Four Nations

The United States of America fractured. After a second civil war and a fragile settlement in 2029, four distinct nations emerged. They each have flags, currencies, economies — and ten years of complicated history by the time Adrian Kuldell wakes up on a delivery morning in 2039.

The Remnant

America

The United States of America no longer calls itself united. After the Second Civil War, the institutions held but the name didn't. What's left dropped 'United States' in response to the fracture — like Facebook dropping 'the.' It still functions. It still governs. But it's a smaller, quieter version of what it was.

Flag breakdown

  • Thirteen red and white stripes — a nod to the original thirteen colonies that seceded to form the union.
  • A diagonal blue background: vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
  • The American eagle holding arrows and an olive branch at center — carried forward from the Great Seal.

Out West

Bear Republic

With California as its cornerstone, the Bear Republic rose from the wreckage of the civil war. Eleven states joined the secession. The grizzly bear flag — California's original — was adapted and formalized. It's a new nation that still feels Californian: progressive, coastal, and wealthy.

Flag breakdown

  • Eleven white stars for the states that seceded around the Second Civil War.
  • Red, white, and blue with bright orange — a nod to the old flag's colors plus California sunshine.
  • 'Bear Republic' in Irish green at the bottom, styled after the old California Republic script.

The Disputed Territory

Ameridonia

The area around Yellowstone was still being disputed when the war ended in 2029. With international allies pushing for resolution, Ameridonia emerged as a sovereign nation to bring closure to the Great Settlement. By 2039 it's a tourist destination embracing Americana nostalgia — and home to some of the world's wealthiest individuals. Banking-friendly laws help.

Flag breakdown

  • A white buffalo with a Maltese cross in two squares — strength and legacy.
  • A yellow heraldic eagle — peace through settlement.

The Lone Star Nation

Texas

This ain't Texas' first rodeo at independence — the first was after the Battle of San Jacinto, over 200 years before. The bicentennial campaign by Texas Independists pushed for sovereign status during the civil war, and they got it. Texas now boasts a top-10 global economy. Houston is one of its biggest cities — Adrian Kuldell's hometown, ground zero for the story.

Flag breakdown

  • The Lone Star, center — formerly the Lone Star State, now a lone star nation.
  • Red for bravery. White for purity. Blue for loyalty.
  • Two cannons crossed below the star with olive branches — peace through strength. A nod to Come and Take It.

The full political history of the Second Civil War and the Great Settlement unfolds across the novel series.
